The movie “Bioshock” is coming to Netflix

Rumors and reports of Bioshock film adaptations have been around longer than ScreenCrush has existed as a website. We have articles in our archives dating back a decade about this version or version coming together or falling apart; Pirates of the Caribbean and rangoGore Verbinski had a Bioshock film project which was, in his words, “eight weeks before filming” when the plug was pulled, supposedly because Verbinski’s film (from a script by Oscar nominee John Logan) would have had a prize astronomical and an R rating, and the studio involved decided that was not a winning combination.
Fortunately, Netflix isn’t averse to spending astronomical sums on programming. They have now obtained the right to make a Bioshock Take-Two Interactive movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter“no writer or filmmaker is on board at this time. The partnership deal has been in the works for nearly a year. Supposedly, an entire ‘cinematic universe’ based on Bioshock could be in sight.
The first one Bioshock The game debuted in 2007 at 2K Games and quickly became a critical and commercial success on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The latest installment in the franchise, Bioshock Infinitewas released in 2013. After Verbinski dropped his Bioshock film, filmmaker Juan Carlos Fresnadillo joined the project, but his vision suffered the same fate – supposedly Universal grew nervous about dark, R-rated action movies after Zack Snyder’s relative failure watchmen At the box office.
Netflix already has a massive, multi-series universe of shows based on the witcherand they recently announced a second season of Esoterica series based on League of Legends video game. So a Bioshock the film should fit perfectly.
