Investcorp to double its investments in India
As the year 2021 draws to a close, a dominant theme on Deal Street has been the interest shown by global investors in India due to the attractive proposition that most new age and other companies existing systems have shown, thanks to their resilience during the pandemic.
Investcorp India, a global alternative asset manager with more than $ 35 billion in assets under management (AUM) worldwide, discussed its investment thesis for India on Big Deal.
Mohammed Alardhi, Executive Chairman of Investcorp and Rishi Kapoor, Co-CEO of Investcorp, discussed it in more detail.
“In 2015, we reviewed our global activity. At that time, after asking our investors and seeing the growth and opportunities in India two and a half years ago, we decided to enter. Today we have invested half a billion dollars in private equity and real estate. Our strategy is to continue to grow in India, focusing on the sectors in which we are comfortable and extending our global investment thesis. Our goal in India is to quadruple our assets under management by half a billion dollars in five years and make more investments, ”said Alardhi.
“From our perspective, pretty much from the first day we decided to enter the Indian market in a significant way, we saw some secular long term trends revolving around the young demographics. This young population was increasingly digital native and also had a marginal propensity to aspire to middle-class consumption. This is (this is something) that we have seen in the more developed economies of the West. It is this thesis that we seek to support in India, ”said Kapoor.
Today, Investcorp is one of the leading investors in 12 companies in India. “We are essentially looking to bring our 40 years global experience as a private investor in the market to the Indian market and effectively implement the same game plan of focusing on market leaders and bringing them to market. next logical step in their own development, ”Kapoor added. .
