Conor McGregor vs. Dustin Poirier: Experts make predictions ahead of UFC 264 trilogy fight | MMA News
In the early hours of Sunday morning, Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier will face each other for the third time in the main event of UFC 264.
The two first met in the Octagon just over seven years ago at UFC 178, where the fresh-faced McGregor claimed his third UFC victory with a knockout in just under two minutes.
The last episode took place in January of this year, on UFC’s Fight Island in Abu Dhabi. On this occasion, it was Poirier who knocked out McGregor, the first man to do so in MMA.
Now the two collide again with the goal of proving who the better fighter is.
Before the showdown, Air sports asked top MMA talent in the UFC, Bellator and PFL for their input. McGregor vs Poirier … who wins?
Leon Edwards (UFC middleweight): “If I had to put money on it, I would probably lean towards Pear tree. I would like Conor to win, he has done a lot for the sport and I know he can beat him. It just depends on where he is mentally. I can not wait to see him.”
Brendan Loughnane (Featherweight PFL): “Anyone who says ‘McGregor is over’ is stupid, because McGregor won this fight and got kicked.
“Maybe he doesn’t have the hunger he used to have when he was like me – hungry, who doesn’t have the millions in the bank – but to say he lost his talent is stupid.
“Conor McGregor is still one of the most gifted and skillful athletes in the world and, as he has done with [Nate] Diaz in the second fight, I think he will come back better, stronger, he will handle the calf kicks and he will finish Poirier in the third fight. “
Anthony Johnson (Heavyweight Bellator): “Dustin is on his thing right now and I think Conor will give him value for his money. The first time they both fought was very young, Conor was hot, it was his time. Dustin is hot. , it’s his time.
“Who’s going to be the hottest now in Game 3, who’s going to show up? Conor is a huge artist and we need him in the sport, and we need Dustin too, he’s such a beast.
“Their styles match up really well, but I think when it comes to who wants it most and determination, I think Dustin wants it a lot more. “
Leah McCourt (Bellator featherweight): “Conor comes back after every loss, shows he can learn from it, get better and better. His fight IQ is so high I can see him come back and potentially dominate this fight.
“Dustin came up with a different game plan (for the second fight) than he thought and has improved so much since their first fight. It’s going to be interesting to see what adjustments Conor makes and what that outcome will be. see Conor come away with victory. “
Marvin Vettori (UFC middleweight): “I think Pear tree will get it. McGregor has that left hand that can solve anything, but I think he’s relying too much on it, which can cause him problems as well. I think Poirier will do it though. “
