According to Netflix’s 10 best graphics, ‘The Queen’s Gambit’ is still a bigger show than ‘Bridgerton’
As you may have heard yesterday, Bridgerton made history by officially becoming the greatest series to ever hit Netflix
According to Netflix, the Shonda Rhimes period article was broadcast by 82 million households in its first 28 days. This performance beat The witcherprevious Netflix record of 76 million parties.
There are caveats about this important step, however. First of all, a single Netflix account counts as a “household”. So even if five profiles under one account look Bridgerton, it still counts as one household – even though those parts are located under five different roofs.
Second, watching just two minutes of a show counts as a “watch” according to Netflix metrics. So even though more people watched Bridgerton than any other Netflix show, that doesn’t mean most of those people have completed the entire first season – or even the entire first episode.
And, finally, here’s the biggest caveat (and the one that’s most important for this article): Many more people subscribed to Netflix in January 2021 than they were in December 2019 when. The witcher created. According to Statista, Netflix gained around 30 million subscribers in 2020.
Basically, Netflix’s formula isn’t exactly the end of the day for which show has been the most viral on the streaming platform. But there’s another, much more telling way to level the playing field for all shows: the Top 10 list.
Netflix created the Top 10 list in February 2020. Since then, we’ve been tracking movies and shows on the leaderboards every day. And based on their performance, we assign point values and update the scores for those projects over time.
The advantage of this system? The Top 10 formula puts all shows on an equal footing. So even though Netflix has gained an additional 30 million subscribers, the highest score a movie or show can get in a single day is ten points.
So while we can’t measure Bridgerton against The witcherthe performance of on the top 10 list (since daily charts were instituted after The witcher‘s premiere), we can pit Bridgerton against all other Netflix shows since February 2020, including The queen’s gambit.
And when do we do that? Bridgerton does not enough measure up to The queen’s gambitthe first 35 days on the streaming service. Although the race is very close.
We can also introduce King tiger in the mix. While several other shows produced very high totals in the Top 10 era, including shows like Cobra Kai, Ozark and Outer Banks: None of these shows racked up about the same number of points in their first 35 days as Bridgerton, the queen’s gambit and King tiger did.
After 35 days on Netflix, King tiger had collected 329 points, while The queen’s gambit had accumulated 334 points. And right in the middle of these two shows is Bridgerton, which currently has 330 points.
That being said, Bridgerton can certainly get a head start on both of these shows in the coming weeks. BridgertonThe 330 points currently add up to ninth place in the All-Time Top 10, well behind The queen’s gambit, who collected 621 points during his 78-day streak in the Top 10 of the charts.
It shouldn’t be too long, however, before Bridgerton catch King tiger, who scored 387 points during his 50-day run in 2020.
