3 players in the hot seat after the start of free agency
The Miami Dolphins have been one of the most active teams in free agency. Which new signatories are putting other players on the spot?
There are a lot of differing opinions on the Miami Dolphins’ first week of free agency. A team that finished with a winning record but had holes to fill throughout its roster, Miami entered the offseason with one of the most capped spaces of any team in the league. They thought they were big spenders, as general manager Chris Grier confirmed the Dolphins would be “aggressive” in the open market.
Miami spent a lot of money in the early days. Much of it went to re-signing their own and keeping the defense intact, but new head coach Mike McDaniel was also given some new playthings offensively. The ground offense will look very different in both scheme and personnel in 2022, and the team has also added a speedy Cowboys lunge receiver. But little has been done (so far) to bolster an offensive line that was abysmal last season, which has been a sore spot for fans as free agency drags into its 6th and 7th days this weekend.
There is still an assortment of big names and veteran contributors available for signing. We’re still early in the offseason and many spots on the roster are subject to change. But looking at the acquisitions the Miami Dolphins have made so far, it got us thinking about training camp and potential positional battles. There will be good depth at multiple positions this coming season, and the team will have a plethora of options when it comes to the depth chart itself.
So which free agent signings that came up in the early days will push others to the second unit? Or completely off the team?
Here are three players whose seats can get hot and could stay hot throughout the 2022 season:
