about me

Hi! my name is John Stephen Jones. I am a 39 year old web developer based in Aberdare, South Wales. I am a strong advocate of web standards and believe that valid and extensible solutions are essential. I build visually eye-catching web sites using table-less CSS / XHTML which are W3C valid and cross browser compliant. Usability is very important to me as this enables visitors easy use of navigation and readability.

I currently work for one of Wales’ biggest multi media agencies S8080 in Swansea where I develop stylish and accessible websites for some great clients.

I have been hand coding web sites for just over 5 years, and I am obsessive with everything connected with the web and I am passionate about best practices, web standards, semantics, usability and accessibility.

So how do I do it?

I always use a ‘content out’ approach to designing web sites. After creating an initial wireframe and then a static design using Fireworks, I code the XHTML first using semantic and well formed mark up, then validate it before moving over to CSS to style the web site. To have valid mark up to work with at an early stage, saves valuable time to move on with a project.

The importance of using web standards is paramount to what I do to ensure cross browser and cross platform compatibility. This saves time and cost for both myself and the client.

I am a great advocate of designing using a ’3 layers’ approach. By this I mean the separation of structure, presentation and behavior. This ensures my work will be accessible to a wide plethora of user agents.

If you need help with a design idea or If you need a website, then please I would be more than happy to help.

Note: I do not do speculative design work. Sorry!
