..to take a famous line from Frank Zappa (The best band You’ve never heard in your life), I’m going to take a break now and then from talking about coding and general ‘geekery’, and list a few of the musical gems that I like and hopefully you become fans of and get great enjoyment from.
So here is part one of a seemingly never ending series……

Helen Lawson

I first stumbled across Helen’s music whilst browsing music on MySpace. And It’s quite rare that I find a voice as captivating as Helen’s and I immediately loved it.

Originally from the Midlands and now based in London, Helen has just released her debut EP ‘Crossing The Bridge” which was recorded at the Radiohead-owned Courtyard Studios – a departure from early recording sessions which were held at home and sometimes in rehearsal rooms which brought its own distractions such as floods, buzzing fridges, rumbling boilers and even the passing tube trains thundering past!

The new EP has a kind of folky Cocteau Twin/Isobel Campbell vibe augmented with some sweet acoustic guitar, strong melodies and Helen’s shimmering voice. My personal favourite from the EP is “Silver Purse” – a song I can only describe as having an aural massage – so soothing!
